Synopsis
As an industry we see the Red Team as having the highest of skill requirements. Something to strive for. Certainly, new cyber security industry entrants seem to all want to be the ‘chaotic good’ hacker. Thanks to TV such as Mr Robot and movies such as Swordfish we have this image of the hacker a brilliant computer savant, albeit somewhat unstable or anti-social. Somehow, for many, this adds to the appeal. Unfortunately, all this pedestal elevation around the Red Team has led to a great many assumptions. For example: many conflate Penetration Testing with Red Teaming. Those with some experience in this area will tell you these are not the same. These assumptions have led businesses and industry to see the Red Team as a bespoke, expensive, and lofty capability reserved for those large organisations who have run out of recorded future subscriptions, giant splunk servers, and other cyber capabilities to spend their money on.
Remy and Simon are here to tell you this is simply not true.
Join them for a talk in which they set out exactly what a Red Team is, does, and is good for. From there you will learn how a Red Team can be used to drive an excellent security program for the whole organisation. Nothing prepares your monitoring and incident response better than an adversary you control exercising them as business as usual. You want more out of the blue team, don’t just do a tabletop, make yourself a Red Team. Hearing this may make even the most seasoned CISO sceptical, after all, Red Teams are highly skilled, and expensive? Aren’t they? Fear not, this is simply a shift in thinking and one which will not break the bank or the brain.
Whether you want to be a Red Team operator, or you are looking for the next building block for your organisation’s cyber security this talk will set out the roadmap for realising value in a Red Team by highlighting strategies for: building skills, obtaining technology, running operations, and integrating the Red Team.
Remy and Simon are both high energy and engaging speakers who bring their expertise in an interactive session that with include actual hats, and an abundance of resources the audience can take away to start their own Red Team journey. They may even have fun.
