Following the stunning success of the Locksport Village last year, we are excited to welcome the Workshop back to CyberCon in 2024!
Locksport is the sport of defeating locking systems.
Enthusiasts challenge themselves by learning a variety of skills including lock picking, lock bumping and other skills traditionally only known by locksmiths and other security professionals.
Located within the Exhibition Hall, the Locksport Village Workshop welcomes you to drop-in and experience something new.

Those who feel they have mastered the Workshop may like to enter the Speed Lock Competition, which open to anyone who wishes to participate.
This friendly contest provides the thrill of competition and the chance to win exciting prizes.
Open to all, the Locksport Workshop allows you to explore the art of locksport at your own pace, with guidance available for locks ranging from simple one-pin models to intricate six-pin versions, including those with security pins.
Skilled trainers are on hand to provide insight into the techniques needed to manoeuvre through these mechanisms, emphasising the tactile connection and understanding that's essential for mastery.
Interactive displays and hands-on stations enable a real understanding of what's happening inside the lock as you attempt to defeat it.
As you move through the Workshop, challenge yourself with progressively more complex locks, with each step offering a deeper connection to the art of locksport.
This hands-on Workshop encourages exploration, and the community-driven atmosphere fosters collaboration and shared learning.
Everyone, regardless of skill level, will find something to challenge themselves with.
Topaz Aral
Topaz is a managing security consultant for adversary simulation at Tesserent with over 16 years of experience picking locks, Topaz is a well known specialist in physical security engagements. In addition to being a qualified safe technician and licensed physical security advisor, Topaz is a collector of locks and lock picking tools. He also runs the OzSecCon physical Cyber Conference in Melbourne, Australia and has run professional training, workshops, and classes for physical security topics and lock picking across Australia and New Zealand at conferences and at private events. Topaz is a specialist lock picker with a deep understanding of lock vulnerabilities and bypass techniques and has been passionately teaching anyone who will listen for over 10 years.
Alannah Guo
Alannah is the Director of Airglow Security, but still a security consultant at heart. Her red teaming experience as well as involvement with OzSecCon has given her the breadth and depth of knowledge that has led her to teach lockpicking workshops at major Australian conferences such as BSides Canberra and 0xCC. Alannah is passionate about physical security and loves sharing her passion with others.
Melody Lei
Mel is currently a full time independent security researcher and bug bounty hunter. She has previously spent over 10 years in other penetration testing roles with companies around the world. She also holds a degree in Mathematics. She enjoys researching and learning about RFID systems, especially the various vulnerabilities in different implementations. In her spare time Mel is one of the organisers for both TOOOL Australia and the OzSecCon conference.
KS Lam
K.S has over a decade of pentesting experiences spanning across numerous industry verticals and technologies. He is highly experienced in testing embedded devices such as ATMs, IoT, SCADA, SDRs, access control systems, speed cameras, cruiseship. For over a decade, K.S has developed a particular interest in physical security and survalliance systems. With the uprising demand in physical security, K.S has the opportunity to test and evaluate various access control systems and how organisation respondto physical threats. Thoughout this journey, K.S uncovers the importance of early detection and response rather than prevention.
K.S was one of the key organisers for the lockpicking villages at BSides Melbourne, Adelaide and CrikeyCon. These community events gave KS an insight on the general curiosity and interests in physical security. In the up coming months, K.S hopes to run more lockpicking villages at conferences and workshops with executives.
K.S was also one of the key participants in 2017 Global Cyberlympics team from EY which placed 1st in Australia and 4th in the world. K.S also came 1st place in the Ruxcon 2017 Black Bag Challenge.
Aaron Robertson
Aaron is a product security engineer for Atlassian. He also regularly assists in running OzSecCon workshops and he is a skilled lock picker with a deep understanding of lock vulnerabilities and bypass techniques. Aaron is a valuable member of the team and brings a wealth of experience to the workshop.
Alistair Weddell
Alistair Weddell is a security engineering leader specializing in high security access control, intrusion systems, and IoT environments. After a decade securing major organizations in the United States, Alistair recently returned to Australia. He is passionate about transforming the security industry to be user centric and eliminating outdated, vulnerable technologies. Alistair has spent over two decades performing offensive physical security assessments on a diverse global targets, including high security manufacturing and consulting with executive protection teams. Now based in Melbourne, Australia; he is building the next generation of AI backed security hardware helping organisations stay ahead of emerging threats.
Jo Zhou
Jo is a Security Specialist in Atlassian’s Red Team. Jo brings over 6 years of experience picking locks to the table. She’s assisted in running OzSecCon since 2017 and has also been involved in running workshops and classes for red team training and lock picking across Australia. Jo is a highly skilled lock picker and has a deep understanding of the techniques required to attack various types of locks.
