Phil Ross is the CISO at UpGuard. Prior to UpGuard, he was the Head of Security Architecture and Planning at Origin Energy. Before switching to utilities he worked in the banking, finance and insurance sector as a Security Solution Architect for ING and ANZ.
The infosec side of Phil's career has spanned thirty years - from 1990's network engineering gigs in 'IT Crowd' basements in London to his current role as CISO for UpGuard.
He was infected with a strong interest in identity management in 2002 after hearing Paul Simmonds talking on 'deperimeterization' and how identity would be the keystone of effective cybersecurity as internetworking freed information from its traditional bounds.
His formative years encompassed academic research at University of London in electro-organic chemistry, biotechnology development work, and mechatronic engineering for films such as Lost in Space and Harry Potter. Phil believes his multi-disciplinary background helps in looking at information security problems from broader perspectives.
