Peter Anstee heads the Cyber and Technology Security Policy Division in Home Affairs as the First Assistant Secretary. The division provides national leadership and international engagement on cyber security policy and coordination, the security of critical and emerging technologies and safety and security online, including countering disinformation and extremist material. His team is responsible for national identity policy and data security, and biometrics governance, design and capability.
Immediately prior to this role Peter was an executive director at CyberCX, Australia’s largest cyber security professional services firm. Peter led the company’s public policy, corporate affairs and crisis communications functions. He was recently a senior adviser to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull where he had oversight of key areas of foreign affairs and national security policy including: cyber security, counter-terrorism, immigration and criminal justice. He led the Prime Minister’s political strategy, communications and policy development in these areas and worked with the Australian Government’s senior leadership, national security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to successfully implement the Government’s agenda.
