Synopsis

In our pursuit of building a cyber-resilient society in Australia, it is crucial to ensure that no one is left behind. As cybersecurity threats evolve and impact individuals and organisations globally, we must recognise that addressing human factors is as vital as advanced technology and robust security solutions. This presentation will provide an overview of the latest research on the cybersecurity challenges faced by diverse and vulnerable communities and an update on the current state of community and victim support for cyber safety in Australia. We will share positive outcomes from community-driven initiatives and emphasise the importance of a human-centric approach to cyber safety. By focusing on cybersecurity education, awareness, advocacy, and fostering a culture of care, we aim to create a safer, more inclusive digital society. Additionally, we will share compelling stories from local communities, illustrating real-world impacts and successes in building cyber resilience.

Dr. Leanne Ngo, Associate Professor at La Trobe University, specialises in digital education innovations, human factors of cybersecurity, cybersecurity culture and education. She is a dedicated advocate for cyber safety and digital literacy in her community.
