Synopsis

The aerospace industry, as a cornerstone of critical infrastructure, is increasingly targeted by sophisticated cyber attacks. The complexity of its supply chain, extensive reliance on third-party vendors, Operational Technology (OT) systems and the integration of IoT devices across interconnected networks expose the sector to significant cyber risks. Connected aircraft such as the A350, A380, B777, and newer models, which have external connections from ground control bases to assist in their operation, including wireless connections to reprogram avionics are particularly vulnerable for innovative cyber attacks. Ensuring the safety, reliability, and resilience of aerospace systems and operations are paramount.

We will share our combined experiences and research on the aviation and aerospace industries, and explore strategies for protecting airport operations, air traffic control systems, and onboard aircraft systems, and emphasize the importance of a robust cybersecurity culture focusing on Critical Systems, Information, Assets, and Data. We will also explore some case studies on emerging cyber threats in aerospace industry, such as advanced persistent threats (APTs) and ransomware, and supply chain vulnerabilities that could impact and compromise the entire eco system. Attendees will gain insights into the evolving cyber threat landscape and learn about best practices for safeguarding aerospace infrastructure against cyber threats.
