Synopsis
State-sponsored cyber operations represent some of the most sophisticated and certainly most determined and targeted cyber threats facing governments, businesses and individuals. They often target critical infrastructure sectors, such as energy, transportation, finance and healthcare and can disrupt essential services, posing risk to public safety. Studying the impact of past attacks can help organisations bolster their resilience against similar threats in the future.
State-sponsored attacks tend to occur within the context of geopolitical tensions, such as territorial disputes, economic rivalries, and ideological conflicts. This talk will examine recent examples of government-backed cyber attacks, geopolitical motivations behind them and relate it back to the Australian context - all of which is crucial to understand when assessing their potential impact and formulating effective response strategies.
