Synopsis

Cyber security has traditionally focused on securing systems and devices and asking people to adapt their ways of working to engage with those systems.

The last year few years have brought home the importance of the need for helping people to be both productive and secure. As everyone moved to be more agile and digital transformation accelerated then securing access to data became more critical and protecting people wherever they may work. Cybersecurity is the underpinning to protecting data, helping organizations remain compliant and maintaining business continuity while organizations adapt to this new world.

When billions of people formed the largest remote workforce in history during the COVID pandemic, overnight, we learned much more than how to securely scale Virtual Private Networks. We were reminded that security technology is fundamentally about improving productivity and collaboration through inclusive end-user experiences. This is a lesson that has continued, and hybrid working is the new working norm, and this is the experience that we need to focus on securing productivity of people wherever they may be.

Cybersecurity needs to focus on “digital empathy.”??How do we truly understand how people engage with technology and build protection into that rather than blaming them for unexpected behaviour? Being empathetic to the end user experience is something we must consider during times of constant disruption and change. As Cybersecurity professionals we need to put ourselves in others shoes and consider how they engage with technology.

This session will look at how we can build security architectures that are empathetic of someone’s situation – and forgiving of mistakes – to ensure people are protected, and blockers to productivity are removed.

Engaging with digital empathy in a digitally transformed world will enable Cybersecurity to truly be the enabler of the business and move beyond the perception of the business blocker and “just say no” department to provide real value and an experience that is more secure and productive.
