Synopsis
The Federal government’s new national digital identity laws are due to come into effect in November. This legislation aims to serve the bedrock for how we create and use identities in uncertain world where ongoing and large-scale data breaches put more and more of our identities and the services we are accessing at risk.
But how well will this legislation likely serve us, and where to next?
This panel convenes digital identity experts from the private sector to discuss what the legislation means for theirs and other organisations, and how well it might help in better protecting citizen data.
It discusses:
- Is this legislation workable for banks and other large organisations, or does it present impediments to online services delivery?
- Are there gaps in what industry needs from government, or what needs to happen next?
- Does this legislative foundation create sufficient room for industry uptake of disruptors in identity solutions, such as verifiable credentials now, and something else in the future
- Are there any lessons we can take from other jurisdictions?
- What kind of ongoing involvement should industry and government have in the evolution of this space?
