Synopsis
Technology innovation and adoption has brought rapid change to all industries. New and forthcoming technologies will help organisations better address external threats, however the underlying “human-risk” factors posed by trusted employees and sub-contractors are often more difficult to detect and counter.
With much of our attention focused on externally originated threats, it is understandable that organisations may overlook insider threats. Trusted insiders need access to confidential information and sensitive operations in order to perform their duties. This gives an internal threat risk a “head-start” on external threats in terms of evading detection and causing damage. Whether an incident occurs through deliberate malfeasance or consequential oversight, internal vulnerabilities pose a formidable challenge to organisations.
This presentation by Dr Peter Chapman will use real-life case studies and industry survey findings to identify key risks associated with threat actors within the organisational perimeter, the impacts of these actions through real-life case studies and provide recommendations on how internal threat risks can be managed.
